Self Portrait with Flag
2025, Linocut, oil-based on paper, 12x18.
Referencing Hyacinthe Rigaud's Portrait of Louis XIV, this linocut reimagines me wrapped in the African American flag. Created in both B&W and color, the monochrome print leaves open the viewer's interpretation: whether they see the American or African American flag, and whether I embody nationalism or cultural pride. This work reflects heritage, dual identity, and the inseparable relationship between Black and American histories.
This work was shown in Virginia State University's Student exhibition, Activate.
